A public hearing is a forum in which the public can express their views and opinions on matters that will affect them.

There are two types of public hearing. Council may call a public hearing on 1) matters concerning financial plans, budget, development plans or other matter; or 2) to hear opposing positions on a specific matter – in this case council is called upon to make an impartial decision based on information provided by parties and witnesses.

Council is required to give taxpayers notice before calling a public hearing.
